BJS's Crime Victimization Survey Shows Rate of Overall Crime Remained Flat from 2014 to 2015
The Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS) has released its annual report on criminal victimization in the U.S. (available at: https://www.bjs.gov/index.cfm?ty=pbdetail&iid=5804). The violent crime rate and rates of intimate partner violence did not change significantly in 2015 as compared to 2014.
There was also no significant change from 2014 to 2014 in the percent of violent crimes reported to police (47%) or in the percent of violent crime victims who received services from a victim service agency (9%).
The property crime victimization rate declined from 43.7 victimizations per 1,000 households in 2014 to 38.3 victimizations per 1,000 households in 2015, largely due to declines in household burglary and theft.
